The title of Escapists' new single ‘Army Of One’ may lead you to conjure connotations of solitude and singularity, a sentiment echoed in the song’s protesting lyrics - “got to do it yourself, like no one else.” However, carry on listening and you’ll hear the warning that “you’ll find yourself your only friend.” The track itself isn't a lone wolf anthem either, it’s one of symphonic solidarity with guitars, bass, drums, horns, synths, backing vocals and, of course, that expressive lead vocal at the head of the charge. At times ‘Army Of One’ can seem overwhelmed with textures and sound, but this serves to convey the emotional turmoil of the hypothetical character who rallies against the world in futile isolation.
